Transforming our city centre - new consultations live

Following consultation earlier in 2019 focusing on plans for The Headrow area of the city, Connecting Leeds can now share plans for the south and east of the city centre including:

  • The Corn Exchange and Call Lane
  • Boar Lane and Lower Briggate
  • Meadow Lane and Bridge End
  • Kirkgate, New York Street and York Street
  • These proposals are part of Connecting Leeds transport strategy for the city. We believe these proposals will:

  • make bus journeys quicker and more reliable
  • improve the bus waiting environment
  • improve conditions for pedestrians and cyclists in the city centre
  • improve public space and make the area more attractive for all
  • Last summer’s feedback on the initial concepts to improve the city centre was positive. Over three quarters of those responding felt positively about the plans with 85% supporting plans for The Corn Exchange area. These proposals now further developed address bus service reliability, cycle safety, accessibility, pedestrian comfort, more greenery and quality of the public realm.

Please take a look at the proposals here and let us know what you think before the 4th November 2019.

If you have questions or want to talk to members of our team about the plans come along to our drop-in event at the Corn Exchange on Monday 14th October, 3.30-7.30pm. Other opportunities to view these plans are available, with smaller events at Leeds Bus Station from 10am to 1pm on Tuesday 22 October, and 3pm to 6pm on Thursday 24 October.
